Poetry for Peace 3000
Posted by Don, Jane and Ben
Poetry for Peace 3000 is an ongoing research and creative writing project that takes as its point of departure the question "Can peace be achieved by the onset of the Third Millennium, the year 3000?"
The project emphasizes deepening one's awareness and appreciation of the brevity and frailty of human life measured against the incomprehensible presumed eternity of the universe - a recognition that we are stewards of the earth for but a brief time and that we must strive towards ridding the world of violence and conflict. The project challenges us to confront our own mortality and to move beyond self in conceptualizing the necessary conditions for eliminating war from the planet by the turn of the Third Millennium, the year 3000.
